Maine Families Visitor

The Family Services Department at Community Concepts is excited to announce an opening for a Family Visitor position for the Maine Families program of Oxford County.  The Maine Family Visitor ensures families in Oxford County have the support they need to foster optimal physical and emotional health and well-being for children and their parents. This is done by enhancing family functioning with a focus on increasing parent knowledge, family strengths, problem solving skills and family support systems.  The family visitor will assist parents to develop advocacy skills both for themselves and their children, support parents as their child’s first and most important teachers, strengthen bonding and attachment between parents and children, and enhance parent’s knowledge of their child’s development and build positive parenting skills, by following the core beliefs and guiding philosophy outlined in the Maine Families Standards of Practice. This position is 40 hours a week based in our Norway office.  Will require travel throughout Oxford County.  Use of personal vehicle is required, with agency mileage reimbursement.  Typical hours are between 8:00-4:30; however, occasional early evening hours may be necessary. Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field.  Must have a minimum of one year of paid employment working with families and young children under 6 years of age. These are contract requirements (non-negotiable and cannot be considered unless these requirements are met).   Must have substantial knowledge in the following areas:  infant and child development, parent-child attachment, maternal-infant health and the dynamics of child abuse and neglect; best practices in parenting education and support; experience and willingness to work with culturally diverse populations; and, experience working in a home-based setting. Candidates must be team oriented and present competencies in problem solving and basic child development principles.  Motivational interviewing experience a plus.  

 

Other Requirements: 

Pre-employment SBI, DMV, DHHS, sex offender registry and federal debarment background checks must be completed upon offer of hire and as a condition of employment.  Must have the following:  a valid driver’s license; telephone; computer/word-processing skills, preferably Microsoft Office; ability to function autonomously and as part of a team.  Comfort in electronic charting a plus.
